The Brussels Event

OCTOBER 2018 (TBC) / BRUSSELS – BELGIUM

EVENT HOSTED BY RNVDO

WHAT

Hosted by RNVDO under the Honorary Patronage of the Embassy of Republic of Iraq in the EU (TBC), the event aims to bring international issue to the pressing issue of mass displaced in Iraq, and generate discussion on existing challenges and potential solutions.

The event comes in time of a wave of anti-refugee narratives in Europe and globally, and shows how engagement in humanitarian, early recovery and development interventions on the ground can offer Iraqis a chance to reclaim their dignity and lives in a place, where they desire it the most – at home.

It is an effort to mobilise partnerships of EU bodies, UN agencies, local and international NGOs in a collective response to the protracted displacement crises in Mosul, Iraq. It is aligned with the following objectives:

1. Highlighting the issue of mass displacement in Iraq and identifying challenges and solutions

2. Proposing a global day for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs)

3. Building new connections and partnerships between EU, NGOs, donors and investors

4. Reinforcing the Iraq crisis-response: Effective, Efficient, and Locally-led

5. Post-conflict reconstruction of Iraq to allow Iraqis to remain and rebuilt their lives in their home country

The event will consist of official opening by the HE Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to the EU (TBC), a keynote speech by the EU Representative (EU), a presentation by RNVDO, lunch break, panel discussion on the displacement crisis in Iraq identifying challenges and solutions, a reception and a press conference.

There will be also an exhibition of drawings made by children in the formerly ISIS-occupied Mosul, with all profit going to the Child-Friendly-Spaces/Temporary Learning Spaces in the Community Centres in Mosul.
